However we outgrew ourselves on this site and it was time to move on to something bigger, better and much easier to access. So we will NO LONGER BE USING THIS SITE. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Lusk. She passed away early this morning at Huntsville Hopstial with family and friends beside her. Jan will certainly be missed here at UAH, she has been a big part of our program for years. You could always count on Jan to be excited about Charger Basketball year round, she will always be our #1 Fan!

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is recognized as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This September, CURE Childhood Cancer has committed to raising awareness and raising money to help find a cure for childhood cancer in our lifetime and put an end to this terrible disease through a special program CURE's Kids Conquer Cancer One Day at a Time!

Please help us in our goal of raising $30,000 in the month of September while honoring special CURE kids each day of the month who have been affected by childhood cancer.

As most of you know my cousin Anna is a Childhood Cancer survivor, so this cause is very close to my heart. They are honoring Anna by naming September 12th Anna Hanger Day. Here is the link.

Former Player Update: Jordan Brewer

Hello all,
Wow, it does not seem like it has already been four months since I left Huntsville, but I have now been in San Francisco for two months and love it. Life in a huge city and California is different from life in the midwest on a farm or in a southern city. It is a very fast- paced lifestyle, and I am constantly working, doing homework, or on the go somewhere. My favorite part of the city is definitely the cultural diversity that is around me. Every neighborhood in the city is unique and has its own flavor that is unlike anywhere else in the world. (Sidenote: the weather is crazy here; it is considerably constant all year, but there are 13 different microclimates in the city so it could be 75 degrees and sunny where I live and 62 degrees and windy somewhere else in the city.) So far, I have eaten India, Japanese, Chinese (and no not Great China Buffett), Hawaiian, Spanish, Mexican, Thai, Italian, and many more authentic restaurants that are only in SF.

As many of you know, the reason I came to SF was for graduate school.
I would consider myself pretty natural smart, and wouldn't say that I had to "study" a considerable amount during my undergraduate years at UAHuntsville. But, I quickly, the first night of class, realized that that would not be the case in a master's program. For the first six weeks of class we had to read 300 pages, write a four page paper on our on personal experiences and how they related to the lecture, and also write five abstracts on scholarly articles that we had to find and read. That was for each week, not for the total six weeks! Also, we were scheduled to have class from 6:15pm to 10:15pm, but never got out of class earlier than 10:45pm. Talk about a change of pace, but it was what I signed up for and I am loving it. I've officially finished my first class and start my second class next week, September 9th.

I hope everything is going well with everyone in Huntsville. I think about the team, players, and coaches all the time and can't wait for this season to start. I follow the team through Coach Ivey and Coach Parrish's blog almost daily. Hopefully, I will be able to find time to come see a game and visit with everyone. Now that college football is starting, I sure am missing not being in SEC country where college football is such a lifestyle. It truly was awesome to experience the great tradition of football on Saturdays in Alabama. The UAH Men’s Basketball team will host its annual Kayo Willis Memorial Golf Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Becky Peirce Municipal Golf Course. We would love for you to join us for a day of fun and friendship. Attached is a sign up sheet for you or your foursome. If you would like to buy a hole sign, please email that information to Coach David Ivey at david.ivey@uah.edu, so he can get your sign made.

UAH Basketball Camp

We would like to thank everyone that helped make our camps run so well this summer.
During our Middle School Camp we had 34 7th and 8th Grade Teams. and we had 75 teams for our High School Team Camp. There were alot of good teams and individual players at our team camps, I believe everyone got alot out of it!
We also have hosted 3 other camps so far. Jr Charger Camp, which is for our youngest Chargers, and we also had our two Day Camps which is for ages 7-12. We had very large numbers at each camp and we heard nothing but good reviews from our parents. I will be posting pictures from our camps, so check back soon!

Congrats to Coach Carroll

I would like to congratulate Coach Kevin Carroll (a former asst coach at UAH, now at Air Force) and his wife Caroline on the birth of their baby boy Lucas Wright Carroll. He was born on May 10th and he weighed 7.1 oz and was 20 inches long. Both mom and Lucas are doing great and are now at home.

Joe Smith Update

Joe Smith's regular season has come to an end. He has lead his team Angelico Biella to a 7th place finish. They have qualified for the playoffs, which is a HUGE accomplishment for his team out of Italy. They will play Lottomatica from Rome, which has future NBA lottery pick Brandon Jennings in the backcourt, in the first round of the playoffs starting on Thursday!
Joe ended up leading his team in scoring (17ppg) and assists (4apg), which puts him in 5th in the entire league in scoring and 3rd in assists! Congratulations Joe and Good Luck in the Playoffs!

I was very excited when I got an email that said that the board approved the New Residence Hall for 2010. They should start construction in June 09. The New building will be located across from Fraternity and Sorority Row and right next to the new parking deck. It will also have a new dining facility that will be state of the art!

Coach Sean Rutigliano has accepted an offer to be the Asst. Coach at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR. He is not just going to be working for anyone, he has been hired by Mark Price, the former asst here from 2001-06.
As excited as we are for Sean, we are very sad to see him leave. Sean has done an amazing job for us here at UAH. He is a tireless worker with a heart of gold, and we will miss him greatly. Conner Blasi a 6'8", 210lb Center from Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, IN has signed his letter of intent to play for The University of Alabama in Huntsville!
Carroll high school coached by Marty Beasley went 17-4 on the year and they were the Northeast Hoosier Conference Champions for the second year in a row. Carroll High School also finished ranked 12th in Class 4A in the state of Indiana. Conner was voted the MVP of the Northeast Hoosier Conference as he averaged 10 ppg and led his team in rebounds, blocked shots, and field goal percentage. We are excited to have Conner as a part of our program, his future is very bright and we are expecting big things from him.

Jason Smith is playing like the MVP in the Top League in Portugal. His team CAB Madeira is currently in second place with a record of 24-4, he is leading the league in scoring 22.1 ppg and steals 2.1, he is also 4th in assists with 4.7 apg. Keep up the good work Jason!

The Charger's dominated the GSC All Conference team this year, as 3 out of the 6 student athletes were from UAH. Leading the way was 3 time honoree Jordan Brewer and joining him was Derek Johnston and Josh Yost. Jordan maintains a 3.77 GPA in Accounting, Josh has a 3.94 in Engineering, and Derek has a 3.87 in Math. Srdjan Boskovic and Josh Magette were also honored as members of the Academic Honor Roll.
I would like to congratulate these guys on all of their hard work off the court!!!

I would like to thank everyone that came to the Senior Banquet last night, we had a great crowd and everyone enjoyed it! I would like to give a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mullins for hosting us last night at Mullins Restaurant, the food and service was great. The end of the year banquet has turned into something special our guys all look forward to at the conclusion of each season. Thanks again for everyone who helped out and made it a special night!

End of Year Banquet

I would like to say thank you to everyone for all of the amazing support we received this year. We averaged over 1200 fans per night for all 12 Home Games, which hardly any Division II school can claim that. It is a great feeling coming out in front of a great crowd every night in Spragins Hall. What was more amazing was the fact that you guys took several bus trips to come support us on the road, no one in Division II does that. We will all be working hard during the off-season as we hope to build on this year and keep things going in the right direction. Thanks again for all that you guys do!!!!

Reggie Benson wrote a great piece on Cody Jones and his life story, it is a must read. You never really know what someone has gone through, and Cody is a great example of someone who has been through alot in his life and he is determined to come out on top.
